This page will help you in determining the age of your Kawai upright, grand, or hybrid piano.
We use the piano’s serial number to keep track of the year in which it was manufactured and as an indication of where it was manufactured. Your piano’s serial number is also key to any and services and repairs. The location of the piano serial number will vary depending on the piano type and model.
The serial number of a Kawai grand piano can be found on the iron plate under the music desk, on the right-hand side of the piano (as you are looking at the keyboard). The iron plate with the serial number is near the grand piano’s tuning pins. You will need to gently slide out the music desk to see the iron plate. This includes the Kawai Shigeru Kawai Series, GX Professional Series, GL Classic Series, and all previous models.
On a Kawai upright piano, the serial number is located in one of two places when you lift the top lid: This includes the Kawai K Series, and ND Series, as well as all previous models.
1. On the top right side of the iron plate, located near the tuning pins.
2. In the top centre of the plate, between the bass and treble string sections.
Usually, you can easily find the serial number once you lift the Kawai upright piano lid.
For Kawai Hybrid pianos: the serial number for the NOVUS NV5S & NV10S can be found on a sticker, under the keybed. The Aures range, including GX-2 Aures, GL-30 Aures, K-300 Aures, serial number can be found in the same location as it’s fully acoustic (iron plate) counterpart.

If you need to find the serial number on a Kawai Digital piano, the location will vary based on the series. The serial number of the Classic Digital (KDP/DG), Portable Pianos (ES), and Concert Artist Premium Pianos (CA) series pianos can be found under the keybed, printed on a black or white sticker, while the Pro Boards series serial number are located on the back of the instrument. Please note that this list below is specific to acoustic and hybrid Kawai pianos.
